The early summer wild flowers and fresh green gets most of the attention. Enjoy cool breeze in summer.

East side trail: Hakone Visitor Center〜Kuzuryu Shrine in Kuzuryu-no-mori park〜Hakone-en
Easy, well-kept trail. You can find beech and oak, or Akagashi trees along the trail. Mixed forest with deciduous beech tree and evergreen oak prove that Hakone is cool in summer, warm in winter.

Kuzuryu shrine is a branch of Hakone shrine with iconic Torii gate in the water. Kuzuryu-no-mori park

You may encounter bicyclists or service vehicles
.
Return by the same route or take sightseeing ship from Hakone-en, not many buses run on the line, only driving road is available between Hakone-en to Motohakone.

West side trail: Hakone Visitor Center〜Hakonemachi-ko(port & bus stop)
Moderate. Quiet and rich forest in broad-leaf trees. Flat, but long distance without any escapeway.
Look for both water birds and woody birds along the shore of the lake. Lucky to meet common kingfisher and crested kingfisher.
